FLEAS PEST CONTROL

Flea Pest Control Services

Contrary to popular opinion, fleas don’t necessarily suggest a sign of poor housekeeping. Therefore, you can easily find fleas in a variety of properties, with proper housekeeping or not. Regular hoovering and cleaning goes some way to helping to prevent a problem, but once fleas are noticed it can be extremely difficult to get rid of them with off the shelf products available in pet shops such as powders, tablets and “spot on” type of gels applied directly to your pets.

These tiny creatures can really be a headache to humans, inasmuch as they often infest pets such as cats and dogs. Like many other insects, fleas go through four different stages in their lifecycle. The stages are from an egg, then larvae, then to pupa and become a full-blown adult. Treatment of fleas can be a never ending cycle, this is where our flea control services can help.

The lifecycle of these fleas varies depending on the environment they reside in, which is mostly dependent on the humidity and temperature levels. These two factors will determine whether the stages will take weeks or even stretch into months. Also, they come in a variety of colours, with most of them being light brown bordering black. However, most of the fleas we find during our flea control operations are reddish-brown. Furthermore, their appearance is relatively flattened. This is why fleas find it easy to glide through fur and hair. The bristles on their bodies are backward-facing.

It is also important to note that their hind limbs come with very developed muscles and their bodies have a unique skeletal structure that are adapted to jumping. Despite the adults’ capability to feed on other blood sources, they prefer living as parasites on a wide range of warm-blooded animals.

Damage Fleas Can Cause

In most cases, you may even fail to notice a flea infestation until you realise your pets are suffering (or one jumps onto your exposed legs). In times of extreme hunger, they can jump to humans to feed, even though humans are not their actual hosts. Therefore, they will feed on humans for some time then jump off to find a more suitable host like your dog or cat. When fleas bite you, they will mostly leave you with intense red irritation around the bite, rendering your skin annoyingly itchy and the irritation can last for up to 2 days. However, on the first instance, these flea bites may not cause serious reactions. But on further bites, you can end up experiencing hypersensitivity, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Flea Pest Control

The prospect of flea control can really be a challenging one, especially if you try doing it by yourself. Therefore, you need to call in professionals to deal with the problem as quickly as possible, right at the time you see a sign of infestation in your home. Fleas can easily stay dormant for up to six months, sometimes even stretching to a year without necessarily feeding.

This is why it is always advisable to call in a flea pest control specialist who will use their knowledge and expertise in the field to take care of your flea problem at home.
